American Red Cross

Today at 11:15 I signed up to give blood to the American Red Cross. For the past couple of days I have been pretty nervous to give blood because I didn’t know what was going to happen. I heard stories about people getting really dizzy and even passing out. So here is how my first experience of giving blood went.

First when I arrived I had to sign in and do all that stupid stuff. Then they had me drink some water because it supposedly is supposed to help prevent the dizziness. Then this nurse lady came up to me and told me to follow her, so I did. We went to this little boxed in area when she took my iron levels and temperature. Everything went well then I had to answer a bunch a questions that we ok except some of them we very weird. Such as, "have you ever had sex in Africa in the past 12 months, has anyone ever stabbed you with a needle involving steroids or any other form a drug" and the weirdest one I believe would be the question that asked, "have you had sex with a man in the last 12 months." I didn’t really get why questions like this were asked when giving blood. Next they took me out to where everybody else was giving blood and had me lay down on a bed. A different lady then found my vein and cleaned my arm with this weird brown liquid. Then she took this giant needle and put it all the way in my arm, which burned! Eventually the pain went away and they gave you this ball to squeeze and when I squeezed it I could feel the blood pulse out my arm, which was really cool. When it was all over I got to eat a ton of cookies and popcorn, which made it worth it.

Summer!

Summer is on the way but couldn’t come any slower. Every year around the 4th quarter all I can think about is summer. It kind of sucks because it’s hard to concentrate on school work towards the end of the year when you have summer in mind. Summer is filled full of so many fun things to do. First off you’re out of school which is always a plus. I always get excited to go camping and fishing on the weekends with family and friends during the summer. I also like going to the carnival and having a good time all day. Vacations/trips are my favorite thing during the summer because you get to go places you have always wanted to go or just somewhere where you know you always have a good time. A lot of people enjoy summer just because you can relax and not have any worries. Boating and wake boarding with by brother in law also have me excited for summer because whenever I’m with him he asks so funny and you always have a good time. Basically I’m just excited to spend time with my friends and family and that means a lot. I also plan on getting a job this summer so that I can get some well needed money. I’m tired of not being able to buy the things I want and my parents don’t really pay for things anymore unless they think I need it. I’m not playing baseball this summer because I need this job and I really need to lift. I didn’t get to lift last summer because of baseball and I really regretted it when football season came along. I think that all the students at MCHS are exited for summer because who isn’t? No more homework or test, being able to sleep in however long you want, and staying up late with friends. With all of this happening and in my mind I am pumped for summer and counting down the days.

Hockey is the Best Sport

Out of all the sports that are out there, hockey is the best one by far! There are just some many aspects to hockey that make it stand over any other sport. Many people would think that basketball or football is the best’s sports to play and to watch but that are their opinion. I like contact sports and to me basketball just isn’t that. I think it’s dumb that you could be going down the court and if you accidently bump into the other team you get penalized for it. All the guys you see in basketball are huge so let the guys play rough, it would be more exciting. I like football a lot and it is up there in the best sports to play but it just is a little too slow pace. Hockey is the best sport for many reasons. Hockey has so many aspects that just draw you into it and the game play is so high pace. Everything is happening so fast and the whole game could change in a split second. You skating full speed the whole time and usually reaching speeds of about 20mph. If you put your head down to look at the puck for just a second you will find yourself laying flat on the ice in some pain. You always have to be aware of what’s going on out there and it is crazy what people will do for the hockey team. Not too many people would kneel down in front of a 75mph slapshot knowing they are going to get hit in the chest head or in the legs, but any hockey player would do that for their team. It also takes a ton of practice for perfection to be able to shoot the puck at the perfect speed, height, and get the right spin on the puck. Hockey is such an intense sport and the hits are just awesome! To me no other sport even comes close to matching the sport of hockey and that’s why it is the best!

I hate reading!

Reading is very enjoyable to many people out there. To me reading just sucks! I don’t mind reading articles or things like that because they aren't very long and they are short and to the point. They come out and tell you what you want to here without having to read hundreds of pages.

I know it’s good for you to read allot because you will be able to go farther in life if you can read fluently so that pretty much the only reason I do it. There are many reasons for why I don’t like reading books and I am sure many people might feel the same way as me but in this blog I will list my reasons and why.

The first reason I don’t like reading is because it takes up to much time when you could be doing something more productive instead of just sitting there. Many other things could be done that is a better use of my time and I just feel like I’m not accomplishing anything by reading.

Another reason I don’t like to read is because after about 10 minutes of it I get so tired! I will actually fall asleep in class if I read to long and I don’t know why. It’s like there is no action or anything to keep me awake.

Also there just never seems to be a book out there for me that keeps me interested for like 200 pages. They are always so slow in the beginning and after reading all the boring pages I just don’t feel like reading it anymore.

I just don’t like reading and I’m sure you can realize that after reading this blog. But I know I need to in order to get better and to learn more so I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

Procrastination

As with many people procrastination can get the best of us. Many people when given homework tell them self’s that they are going to get it done, but when? The most common response would be later.

I am a very bad procrastinator and I don’t know why. I know that I need to get my homework done when ever I get the chance but I don’t. I just think to myself that I can just do it later and it always seems to come back at me in a bad way.

Procrastination happens so much more today because there are so many things to get you distracted from your work. Things such as Facebook and YouTube are a big distraction today because you just get sucked into them. People much would much rather chat with their friends, watch funny videos, of play games than do homework a little bit ahead of time.

I seem to procrastinate because I just plainly hate doing homework. I hate doing homework so much I just seem to put it off until I figure out that I need to do it! That’s usually about 10:00 at night which makes me tired for school in the morning.

I think that schools should give us more time to do our work in class so that people don’t have to take the work home and distracted from their work by technology. Procrastination is a bad thing that most teens are doing today. It causes students to fail classes and get in trouble by parents or by coaches. I know I need to stop procrastinating because it is bad but I just don’t know how. There are just so many things to do that would seem more useful for my time. Hopefully one day I will drop my procrastination habit because it would make things a lot easier!

Year around schooling wouldn't be so bad

Many people don’t like the idea of year around schooling but if you think about it, it would actually be that bad.
If you told teens today that they would no longer be having their long summer, many of them would be upset. Teenagers are always so excited when summer comes because they no long have to go to school for a long period of time and you don’t have to worry about anything but having fun. Most students probably don’t actually know how year around schooling works and if they did perhaps they might prefer to have year around schooling.
Year around schooling wouldn’t be so bad for many different reasons. First is the schedule. The schedule for year around schooling goes like this. Students attend school for 45 days and then get three weeks (15 days) off. The normal breaks are still built into this calendar. With this in place school would seem shorter because you don’t have to go to school for very long until you get a nice sized break. School wouldn’t seem so boring and people might enjoy going to school more because it won’t seem to carry on so long.
Second is a reason that I have face. With the long summer break we have I end up forgetting a lot of the things I learned like math. With year around schooling you wouldn’t be having the problem of forgetting things because you would only be gone from school three weeks at a time.
I think that if we had year around schooling many students’ grades would improve. They wouldn’t feel so overwhelmed because of all the work, and they wouldn’t end up forgetting things they already learned. It could possibly even improve attendance because students wouldn’t get so bored of coming to school.

We shouldn't be giving homework!

First off there are probably one hundred reasons that I could think of for why we should not be given homework but I am just going to give a couple.
Many people would have to agree with me that teachers at MCHS give as too much homework. It seems like they will give us homework every single day for the whole school week and it’s not just from one teacher but from all of them.
Many students such as myself play sports and when we are given all this homework at once it is very hard to get it all done.  There just isn’t always enough time to get it all done and teachers get mad at us because we don’t always get it done. They say it’s our fault but truly it is their fault for packing on all this homework when they know we have sports.
Another reason why teachers shouldn’t give us homework is because we are already at school for 8 hours a day being taught by teachers so why would we need to do more at home after we already did all that.  I think that if we are doing work in school for 8 hours that that’s enough work and we shouldn’t have to do more.
The third thing that comes to mind is when students take home all their homework a lot of the time they don’t get some parts of it which really slows up the way things work. If teachers would just do all this stuff in class and didn’t give us homework we could learn it easier and wouldn’t get so frustrated with our self’s when we don’t understand something.
So to all the teachers out there, I really think that it would be really helpful for many students and would maybe even help by just doing more in class.
