American Red Cross

Today at 11:15 I signed up to give blood to the American Red Cross. For the past couple of days I have been pretty nervous to give blood because I didn’t know what was going to happen. I heard stories about people getting really dizzy and even passing out. So here is how my first experience of giving blood went.

First when I arrived I had to sign in and do all that stupid stuff. Then they had me drink some water because it supposedly is supposed to help prevent the dizziness. Then this nurse lady came up to me and told me to follow her, so I did. We went to this little boxed in area when she took my iron levels and temperature. Everything went well then I had to answer a bunch a questions that we ok except some of them we very weird. Such as, "have you ever had sex in Africa in the past 12 months, has anyone ever stabbed you with a needle involving steroids or any other form a drug" and the weirdest one I believe would be the question that asked, "have you had sex with a man in the last 12 months." I didn’t really get why questions like this were asked when giving blood. Next they took me out to where everybody else was giving blood and had me lay down on a bed. A different lady then found my vein and cleaned my arm with this weird brown liquid. Then she took this giant needle and put it all the way in my arm, which burned! Eventually the pain went away and they gave you this ball to squeeze and when I squeezed it I could feel the blood pulse out my arm, which was really cool. When it was all over I got to eat a ton of cookies and popcorn, which made it worth it.

Summer!

Summer is on the way but couldn’t come any slower. Every year around the 4th quarter all I can think about is summer. It kind of sucks because it’s hard to concentrate on school work towards the end of the year when you have summer in mind. Summer is filled full of so many fun things to do. First off you’re out of school which is always a plus. I always get excited to go camping and fishing on the weekends with family and friends during the summer. I also like going to the carnival and having a good time all day. Vacations/trips are my favorite thing during the summer because you get to go places you have always wanted to go or just somewhere where you know you always have a good time. A lot of people enjoy summer just because you can relax and not have any worries. Boating and wake boarding with by brother in law also have me excited for summer because whenever I’m with him he asks so funny and you always have a good time. Basically I’m just excited to spend time with my friends and family and that means a lot. I also plan on getting a job this summer so that I can get some well needed money. I’m tired of not being able to buy the things I want and my parents don’t really pay for things anymore unless they think I need it. I’m not playing baseball this summer because I need this job and I really need to lift. I didn’t get to lift last summer because of baseball and I really regretted it when football season came along. I think that all the students at MCHS are exited for summer because who isn’t? No more homework or test, being able to sleep in however long you want, and staying up late with friends. With all of this happening and in my mind I am pumped for summer and counting down the days.
